Résumé de l'épisode 1

"In an old house in Paris all covered with vines lived twelve little girls in two straight lines..." Thus begins this musical adaptation of the classic 1930's children's book about Madeline, the smallest and bravest of the twelve little girls. We meet Madeline, her housemates, and Miss Clavel, their loving guardian, and spend a typical day with them in glorious Paris. We visit the zoo and the skating rink and travel with the perky, carefree Madeline on a fantasy tour over the Seine and through the Louvre in a tiny plane. Then one day, Madeline lags behind during the girls' picturesque walk. That night Miss Clavel has a feeling that "something is not right." And sure enough, Madeline is awake and crying in bed. Dr. Cohn arrives, diagnoses appendicitis and takes Madeline, safely wrapped in a blanket, to the hospital. When Madeline is not back in the morning, the girls find they just can't get through their day without her. We see that Madeline has had a successful operation and is recuperating splendidly in a lovely hospital room. After two weeks, her housemates go to visit her, stopping to buy her some special presents. At the hospital, the girls watch in awe as Madeline sings "Voila, My Scar!" They're so impressed with the array of toys and dolls she has received that at night when they're home in bed, they beg Miss Clavel to have their appendixes taken out. Miss Clavel laughs and tells them to be thankful that they're well, and lovingly tells them to go to sleep.
