Résumé de l'épisode 1

Wimbledon 2016 is the definitive account of the 130th Championships. Both defending champions entered the fortnight with a great deal at stake. Novak Djokovic, seeking a third successive triumph and fourth in all at the All England Club, was also halfway to achieving the calendar year Grand Slam. Serena Williams meanwhile was trying to equal Steffi Graf’s Open Era record of 22 Major singles titles and achieve parity with the German on seven Wimbledon singles titles a piece. The Championships took a series of twists along the way. In one of the biggest upsets in recent Wimbledon history, Djokovic was beaten by the big-hitting American Sam Querrey in the third round. And in the Ladies’ Singles, the second seed Garbine Muguruza, the recent French Open champion, lost to qualifier Jana Cepelova from Slovakia in the second round. For the fourth time in the history of The Championships, the All England Club opened its doors on Middle Sunday to catch up on the backlog of matches, due to the rain. The Ladies’ Singles Final featured Serena Williams against Angelique Kerber, a repeat of this year’s Australian Open final, which saw the German collect her first Major singles title. On this occasion Williams didn’t let her, winning 7-5, 6-3 to claim her 22nd Grand Slam singles title and seventh at The Championships. In the Gentlemen’s Singles Final, Murray continued to show the same exacting standard of tennis he had produced all Fortnight, defeating Raonic 6-4, 7-6, 7-6 to collect his second Wimbledon singles title. Narrated by Sophie Okonedo and featuring exclusive contributions from Andy Murray, Serena Williams, John McEnroe, Martina Navratilova and Billie Jean King, this documentary is a dramatic and entertaining record of the proceedings at 2016.
