When the Inner Circle Club learn of the Phoenix's power, they use Jason Wyngarde to create a new history in the mind of the confused Jean/Phoenix. Wyngarde creates a passionate romance between himself and her. When the X-Men come to rescue Jean, they find her fighting alongside Wyngarde
