"Not a single eye was dry" the day the Spanish Ambassador moved to London, taking Madeline's dear friend Pepito with him. Once in London, Pepito, who sorely missed those "little girls next door" went from bad to worse. Why not invite them to visit in London? And so they came, bringing a gift they knew Pepito would love, a horse. But this was a very old and very funny horse who eventually ate everything in the Spanish Embassy's garden. This made him very sick and Pepito's parents decided they would get Pepito a much younger horse. What would become of Old Dobbin then? He went home with Madeline to "the old house in Paris" where he was treated with all due love.
